The Vineyard
The Vineyard
The Edens Road vineyard is an extremely stony area where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps to restrict plant vigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics, leaves were removed to allow light penetration and air movement to the fruiting zone. This vineyard is a combination of rocks and boulders which is very hard on farm equipment but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson's sun - and ripening the Grüner Veltliner fruit.
Winemaker's Notes
Winemaker's Notes
Grüner Veltliner is the most widely planted white grape variety in Austria, which is Hermann Seifried's homeland. We were thrilled to finally be able to grow Grüner Veltliner here in New Zealand after it had passed through a long quarantine process. In 2008 we chose our Brightwater vineyard to plant a small area of these very special vines.
More recently, we have established Grüner Veltliner vines in our Edens Road vineyard.
Our 2024 Seifried Nelson Grüner Veltliner comes from the perfect season we enjoyed with low rainfall and negligible disease pressure. The pristine fruit condition and low yields (from late October spring frost) meant we had amazing quality, low yielding fruit to work with. 2024 was simply an outstanding vintage in Nelson - in fact Hermann
Seifried has commented that it is perhaps the very best vintage of his 49 seasons in the top of the South! That from a character not known for exaggeration or embellishments.

"Pristine and elegantly fragrant, the bouquet shows crunchy apple, fig, lemon zest and green tea...brightly expressed palate offering juicy fruit intensity with vibrant acidity..."
