The Vineyard
The Vineyard
The Brightwater Vineyard vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict plant vigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics, leaves were removed to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone.
Winemaker's Notes
Winemaker's Notes
The 2012 is the third release of our Grüner Veltliner. “Grüner” is the most widely planted white grape variety in Austria, which is Hermann Seifried’s homeland. We were over the moon to finally be able to grow Grüner Veltliner here in New Zealand after it had passed through the long quarantine process. In 2008 we chose our Brightwater Vineyard to plant a small area of these very special vines. Our Grüner has been exceptionally well received despite being able to offer only very modest allocations.
“Attractively scented bouquet with sweet white flowers, chalk like suggestions, pineapple (tinned), radish and snow pea. Yes! A different bouquet from some of the typical white wines some readers may be used to. Only just dry with medium + acidity, a spicy white pepper note, very light tropical fruits - pineapple (tinned), apple and pear. Lightly textured wine medium+ length, balanced and well made.”
4 Stars - Cameron Douglas MS NZ, September 2012.
