The Vineyard
The Vineyard
The 2008 Seifried Riesling is a blend from both our Brightwater and Redwood Valley Vineyards.
The Brightwater Vineyard was planted with Riesling in 1999. These vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard, where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict the plants vigour and to crop at low levels, to further enhance the aromatics we removed leaves to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone.
The unirrigated Redwood Valley Vineyard is situated on a gently sloping, north facing clay site; the vines range in age from 8 to 25 years. Vertical shoot positioning helps to expose the berries to sunlight, thus getting maximum intensity and optimal ripeness.
Winemaker's Notes
Winemaker's Notes
The Seifried Riesling is a blend of fruit from our older Redwood Valley Vineyard, and Brightwater Vineyard. The two portions were harvested, pressed and cool fermented separately before blending in July. The 2008 vintage was notable in that we experienced good consistent flowering during December 2007, resulting in lovely, evenly ripe fruit characters as the growing season progressed.

"...a delightful tropical blossom nose with a minerally backdrop. The palate entry has ripe, luscious stone-fruit, with citrus flavours persisting long after the wine is gone. The slight residual sweetness is balanced perfectly with the deep mineral acidity giving length and structure." - 2008
"A deep golden colour shines through the glass. Aromas of buttered popcorn, caramel and dried apricots on the nose. The palate is rich and luscious with dried fruit and sherbet drop characters. A delicious lingering finish." - 2026
