The Vineyard
The Vineyard
The Brightwater Vineyard vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict the plants vigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics, leaves were removed to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone.

Winemaker's Notes
We are delighted to be able to release our long awaited Grüner Veltliner. “Grüner” is the most widely planted white grape variety in Austria which is Hermann Seifried’s homeland. We were over the moon to finally be able to grow Grüner Veltliner here in New Zealand after it had passed through the long quarantine process. In 2008 we chose our Brightwater Vineyard to plant a small area of these very special vines.
After a later start to the 2010 season due to a cool spring, we experienced a fabulous growing season and ripening period. We had day after day of crystal clear picking conditions which enabled us to pick the grapes at peak ripeness and in good condition.

"...delicately fragranced with peppery characters, subtle spice and a twist of ginger. The palate has soft lemon/lime notes and a gentle phenolic and minerally backbone. The wine is dry and reveals an earthy mineral structure." - 2010
"A pale golden edge, a tight nose with floral notes. Crisp and phenolic edge on the finish of the wine. A lovely food wine." - 2026
